Huggins and Haggland Grant for Continuing Education

Purpose

The Huggins and Haggland Grant for Continuing Education (HHCE) allows ONA members the opportunity to advance their career in the field of nursing by networking and gaining valuable knowledge through attendance and participation in continuing education conferences, workshops, advanced trainings and online programs.

Type of Program

This is a reimbursement program for participation in certified continuing education conferences, including conferences and training leading to improvements in nursing practice or nursing education.  Funds may be used for registration fees, travel, accommodation and other expenses directly related to participation in the certified continuing education activity.

Eligibility

Any Oregon Nurses Association member in good standing, with at least one (1) year of membership.

Grant Limit

  1. Each applicant may be eligible for a continuing education grant of up to $500 every two (2) years for registration fees, travel and/or accommodations to qualifying conferences, workshops or trainings.
  2. Five (5) grants for a total of up to $2500 are available beginning July 1 of each year and ending June 30 of the next year. 
  3. Each applicant may be eligible for a grant for the costs of online continuing education up to $150 every year.  A total of $1500 is available on an annual basis for online continuing education awards, beginning July 1 and ending June 30.
  4. Qualified applications for either in-person continuing education grants or the online continuing education grants are processed on a first come first served basis, beginning July 1 of each year.
  5. Priority will be given to first time applicants and/or those applicants that have not received a HHCE grant in more than five (5) years.

Application

Application for reimbursement for continuing education is made by completing the Huggins and Haggland Grant for Continuing Education (HHCE) Request Form. The application will include copies of receipts for expenses.
