Randall L. Williams Memorial Scholarship for Nursing Education
Purpose
The Randall L. Williams Memorial Scholarship for Nursing Education was created by the Oregon Nurses Foundation (ONF) in memoriam of long-time Oregon Nurses Association (ONA) member, “Randy” Williams. Randy was a strong advocate for Oregon nurses and the nursing profession throughout his career. This scholarship was developed to honor his memory and to provide tuition assistance to future nurses. This scholarship will be awarded for primary nursing (RN – Associate or BSN) education only (not advanced nursing degree).
Scholarship and Selection Criteria
- Actively enrolled (currently taking core curriculum courses) into an accredited nursing program located in Jackson, Josephine, Coos or Klamath counties in Oregon, reside in one of these counties, or is attending the BSN program at the University of Portland.
- Selection of the awardee is based upon the following elements:
- Leadership (35%)
- Experiences with other cultures, minority groups, and underserved (30%)
- Future contributions to nursing (15%)
- Value of Scholarship (10%)
- Certified shortage area (10%)
Amount of Award
The award will be for $1,500. Applicants are invited to reapply annually. As with all scholarships, the award will be sent directly to the educational institution for application towards tuition, fees and other expenses clearly related to the program.

Applicants are restricted to applying for only one Oregon Nurses Foundation scholarship.

- Transcripts (may be unofficial)
- Proof of current enrollment in core nursing courses in an approved Oregon School of Nursing
- One letter of recommendation from a nursing faculty member. May use the electronic reference form available in this application. The letter can be submitted directly to ONF from the faculty member. Instructions for this form are available in the reference section of this application. The letter of recommendation should address the following:
- The applicant’s good standing in the program
- The length of time you have known the applicant
- Examples of the applicant’s leadership
- Additional information that is pertinent to the application
All applications must be received via email to the Oregon Nurses Foundation by May 1 of each year. All supporting documentation must be provided with the application; failure to submit all requested documentation will disqualify the applicant.
Timeline
- March 1 – May 1 Applications are available online.
- May 1: Applications must be received by the ONF electronically.
- May 2 – May 31: Applications are reviewed by the ONF Scholarship Committee.
- Fall – Funds are transmitted to the educational institution at the beginning of the term.
Applications must be submitted by the end of the day, May 1, 2025
