Centennial Education Scholarship
Purpose
The Centennial Education Scholarship was created to support Oregon nursing students in prelicensure nursing programs (BSN, ADN), and for RN students enrolled in a program leading to a BSN in an accredited Oregon School of nursing. The scholarship award is for costs of completing a prelicensure or BSN program. It includes tuition, fees and other expenses directly related to participating in the prelicensure nursing program.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
1. Active enrollment (currently taking core curriculum courses) in an Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN) approved nursing program in Oregon.
2. Selection of the awardee is based upon the following elements:
- Leadership (35%)
- Experiences with other cultures, minority groups, and underserved populations. (30%)
- Future contributions to nursing (15%)
- Value of Scholarship (10%)
- Certified Shortage area (10%)
Amount of the Award
One non-renewable scholarship will be awarded annually for $5,000. Applicants are invited to reapply annually. As with all scholarships, the award will be sent directly to the educational institution for application towards tuition, fees and other expenses clearly related to the program.
Application
Applicants are restricted to applying for only one Oregon Nurses Foundation scholarship. Documents for a Complete Application:
- Completed online
- Transcripts (may be unofficial)
- Current enrollment in core nursing courses in an approved Oregon School of Nursing
- One letter of recommendation from a nursing faculty member. May use the electronic reference form available in this application. The letter can be submitted directly to ONF from the faculty Instructions for this form are available in the reference section of this application.
Letter of recommendation should address the following:
- The applicant’s good standing in the program
- The length of time you have known the applicant
- Examples of the applicant’s leadership
- Additional information that is pertinent to the application
All applications must be received via email to the Oregon Nurses Foundation by May 1 of each year. All supporting documentation must be provided with the application; failure to submit all requested documentation will disqualify the applicant.
Timeline
- March 15 – May 1: Applications are available online.
- May 1: Applications must be received by the ONF electronically.
- May 2 – May 31: Applications are reviewed by the ONF Scholarship Committee.
- July 30: Awards are announced.
- Fall – Funds are transmitted to the educational institution at the beginning of the term.
